So she started an emergency food resource for East Austin residents. She would get food donated by grocery stores, starting with Trader Joe’s, delivered to her home. The food would be offered to those who needed it mid day Friday through Sunday with the help of volunteers she had recruited. She advertised the service on Facebook as Mobile Blessings from the Heart. Duran continued the service after the pandemic, and now has a bigger space near her home and serves a large number of Black and Brown community people. Duran was nominated by a former recipient of her service who now volunteers with her. When asked what she gets for doing this, Duran answered, “I have not received any rewards. God sees me.”
